Add a location

Last updated 19 days ago

To start navigation in "SonarVision," you select a location; the app determines your current position as accurately as possible, finds a highly precise walking route to take you there, and then starts the navigation.

It is therefore very important to place these locations as accurately as possible and to place them exactly where you want the route to end.

You can add your own personal locations—often called “addresses”—or use public locations (points of interest, public transportation, etc.) already available in SonarVision.

This article explains the methods available to you for adding new personal addresses.

Saving an Address On-Site

If you are physically at the location you want to add, you can tap “Add an Address” and then “Add an Address Manually.”

The app will then allow you to pinpoint your location using GPS or RTK. Once your location is determined, you can still move around if needed, but when you’re satisfied, you can tap “Save My Location.”

You’ll then need to give this location a name and confirm.

Your address has now been added!

Request a New Address Using the App

You can add a new address using its mailing address, no matter where you are.

Click “Add an address” and then “Request a new address.”

Search for your address in the search bar labeled “Search for an address.” Even if you don’t type the entire address, or if you make a spelling mistake, you’ll likely be able to find the address you’re looking for in the drop-down list below.

If this location already exists in the SonarVision database—either among your personal addresses or among SonarVision’s public addresses—the app will notify you, and you can select it.

Otherwise, in the form that appears after your selection, assign a name to this new address, and tap “Create.”

Your address has now been added!

Be aware, however, that it is very difficult to obtain the exact location of the front door or gate you are looking for in this way. Postal addresses are, by nature, not very precise and may correspond to several different locations.

Imagine, for example, a restaurant on the ground floor that shares its address with the building above it. Its address—let’s say 1 Boulevard du Montparnasse—cannot correspond to both the restaurant’s entrance and the building’s front door.

You’ll therefore need to use the editing platform at SonarVision to resolve the ambiguity and place the pin correctly. The pin will then be considered “verified.” See Planning a Good Route for more details.

Using the Editing Platform

Note: This method is intended for sighted route planners who can use the maps and other visual tools available on the online editing platform at SonarVision.

You can directly add new, precisely positioned addresses from the editing platform at SonarVision.

You can use the powerful visual tools available there (aerial images, panoramic images, detailed maps, OpenData, etc.) to place points with precision. Points created this way are therefore immediately “verified” by the app.

See the article Planning a Good Route or our video tutorials for more information.

Creating New Addresses at the Endpoints of a Track

When you save a track, if the start or end of your track does not correspond to an existing address, the app will prompt you to create a new address at the exact point where you finished the track.
