SonarVision’s automatic routing feature allows you to launch a trip which follows sidewalks and crossings without having to prepare anything in advance.

Please be aware that the quality of SonarVision’s automatic routing feature is highly dependent of the quality of your area’s pedestrian mapping on OpenStreetMap.

How to launch an automatic trip?

Choose an existing destination in SonarVision in any menu.
Select “Launch an automatic trip”.

The app will first ask you to scan your surroundings in order to precisely locate your position before calculating a route. This requires you to be outside.

You will first need to add a new address in the appropriate menu before being able to launch an automatic trip. You can manually create places with great accuracy using the VPS system if you are already on location. Otherwise you can request and have a sighted person position it accurately with our online editing platform.

How does it work?

SonarVision uses OpenStreetMap pedestrian data to generate automatic trips. Automatic trips are only as precise as OpenStreetMap’s pedestrian mapping. If you notice imprecisions or errors, ask someone tech-savvy to go check your area on OpenStreetMap.

If there is no pedestrian data in your area, SonarVision will tell you it was unable to generate a trip.

Limitations

Even the best OpenStreetMap cartography requires some compromises : mapping shortcuts and optimized paths is generally not considered good practice. As mentioned previously, mistakes can slip into OpenStreetMap data. We urge you to exercise maximum caution, and to rely on your Orientation and Mobility skills at all times.

OpenStreetMap pedestrian cartography coverage is spotty. Ask someone sighted to check the coverage map: Zones de couverture des technologies SonarVision.

As with any trip in SonarVision, if your destination is not positioned accurately, you will be accurately guided to the wrong place. Please use the online editing platform to correct the positions of your addresses.

How do I get someone to map my area on OpenStreetMap?
