Record a track
Last updated 19 days ago
You can now create your own routes directly from the app, without having to go through the web platform. All you have to do is drive the route once to save it.
The app uses its ultra-precise location engine to capture an accurate GPS track of your route.
While recording, you can mark the start and end of each crosswalk or set of stairs you encounter. These points will then be included in the route.
Try to maintain as straight and smooth a path as possible to avoid zigzags or back-and-forth movements in the route. It may be helpful to have a guide with you to help record a more direct path.
Converting the Track into a Route
Once recording is complete, you can convert the GPS track into a “SonarVision” route, ready for use with our navigation system. To do this, simply specify a starting point and a destination. You can either select existing points or create a new address based on the endpoints of the track.
The generated route is immediately usable in the app. However, we strongly recommend that you have a friend or family member review and “clean up” the route on the web platform to remove any artifacts that might interfere with navigation!
⚠️ Crosswalks and stairs will only be announced if you explicitly entered them during recording.
Why is conversion necessary?
Converting the track into a route allows you to:
correct any inaccuracies in the raw track,
add street names,
automatically generate turn-by-turn directions,
assign a starting point and a destination to your route.
And coming soon…
It is not yet possible to import a track in GPX format or to export a saved track. These features will be added in future updates.
A GPX track (short for GPS Exchange Format) is a standard file that contains GPS location data, such as a series of points representing a route traveled. This format is widely used to record, share, or import routes into navigation apps. A GPX track can include information such as location, elevation, time, and sometimes even speed.
(Feature available since version 2.6.0)
