Is it possible to use a remote camera with SonarVision?

Short answer: No.

Last updated 19 days ago

Many users would like to be able to store their iPhone safely and use a remote camera instead, such as Ray-Ban Meta, a GoPro, or another device.

For now, this is technically impossible. In fact, to function properly—and to be responsive and reliable—VPS needs not only images from the camera but also data from the accelerometer and gyroscope, which must be correlated with those images. Furthermore, it requires extremely low latency; otherwise, the system would feel very slow to you…

No accessory currently offers these capabilities, and even if one did exist, Apple currently makes it virtually impossible to pair such a device with our VPS systems.

The only current solution is to run the SonarVision app on a compatible device, namely the iPhone, iPad, or potentially the Apple Vision Pro (worth a try!).

If you’d like to use SonarVision with your iPhone tucked away in your pocket, I encourage you to learn more about GNSS RTK capabilities. Here’s the dedicated article: Precise Geolocation Systems.
