Recording a GPS track
Last updated 2 months ago
(Feature available in beta since version 2.6.0-beta build 196)
You can now create your own trips directly from the app, without needing to use the online editing platform. Simply walk along the route once to record it.
The app uses its ultra-precise localization engine to capture an accurate GPS track of your movement.
While recording, you can mark the start and end of each crosswalk or staircase you encounter. These elements will then be reflected in the trip.
Transforming the track into a trip
Once recording is complete, you can convert the GPS track into a SonarVision itinerary, ready to be used with our navigation system. To do this, you should associate the track’s endpoints to a starting place and a finishing place. You can either select existing places or create new ones.
The generated itinerary is immediately usable in the app and can be modified in the editing platform like any other itinerary.
⚠️ Crosswalks and staircases will only be announced if you explicitly marked them during the recording. If you fail to do so, you can always add them later in the editing platform.
Why is a transformation necessary?
Transforming the track into an itinerary allows you to:
correct potential inaccuracies in the raw track data,
add street names,
automatically generate guidance instructions,
associate a start and end point to your itinerary.
Coming soon...
It is not yet possible to import a GPX track or export a recorded track. These features will be added in future updates.
A GPX trace (for GPS Exchange Format) is a standard file that contains GPS location data, such as a series of points representing a traveled route. This format is widely used to record, share, or import itineraries into navigation apps. A GPX trace can include information such as position, altitude, time, and sometimes even speed.
